Strong Female Characters

Random thought of the day (that’s writing related so ends up here on this blog instead of the other one):

You have not created a strong female character if you spend multiple books talking about how powerful she is or demonstrating her fighting prowess and then you have her beat to a pulp by a group of random, unnamed male characters.

And you especially haven’t done so if that happens and her great looks, that you also spent so long developing, are unchanged after she recovers from a few artfully described black eyes.
