(Well, almost. I think it’s actually tomorrow. But I didn’t know what to write about today and I might not feel like writing tomorrow because I’m moving. So…)
One year ago today (or thereabouts) I wrote my first blog post. It was odd. It mentioned centaur porn (the things you learn about on the Internet…)
Since then I have written 281 posts. (282 after this one). Interestingly, the one that seems to attract the most blog hits is about read receipt being a bad idea.
According to WordPress I have 105 followers. (Although I suspect the actual number is far less because at least a few of the early followers don’t appear to be active anymore and at least one person followed me twice.)
I’ve had 2,502 views. (But obviously there have been more sightings of my posts because I can have days with no views where I get likes and new followers. Someday I’ll actually understand how this all works…)
Other than my own comments, there have been 223 comments on the blog. (That may count spam comments, but at least 150 or so have been “real comments.”) My top commenters have been Keri, Dave, Lizzy, Alison, and Jennifer. All are doing great things on their blogs, so check ’em out.
I’ve linked to at least 171 other blog posts, probably more. Those are just the ones I remembered to move into my “used in blog” folder. I have another 80+ that I mean to share at some point in time. (Once I get past this current self-obsessed phase…)
Overall, I’m pretty pleased. I tend to be anti-social even on-line and other than spew whatever crosses my mind and link to other posts I like I haven’t done anything to promote this blog, so not too shabby really.
I’m glad I did it because it kept me thinking about writing even at times when I wasn’t writing much. And it let me learn from other bloggers, too. (I do appreciate all the comments I’ve received and do store them somewhere to be filtered into the dark void at the back of my mind with everything else I acquire while moving through life.)
Hopefully by my two-year blogiversary I’ll have a published story out there somewhere or an agent or something like that that makes me feel more legit in what I’m doing. But until then I’ll just keep plugging along.
(Oh, and the picture above is one of my favorites of that country that decided it didn’t want me. Pbbbt to them.)
And a random song to share, because it’s currently playing and always makes me smile:
Let Me In Your House by Bobby Rush
A huge congrats on your blogiversary. I didn’t realize that we started around the same time. Mine is next month. 🙂
Thanks! (And an early congrats on yours.)
